THE SPOT

Tenerife

El Médano, on the sunny south coast of Tenerife, is one of Europe's most famous windsurf destinations — and for good reason. Consistent trade winds, volcanic landscapes and a relaxed beach-town vibe give you exciting conditions, warm temperatures and a true ocean windsurf experience year-round. The wind here is driven by the Atlantic trades: October–March: 15–20 knots, sometimes more — and still very reliable That means wind sessions on most days, with chop or even small waves, sandy water access and a lively windsurf scene right in town. Add golden beaches, good Canarian food, sunset sessions and espresso breaks on the beachfront promenade, and you have the ultimate Atlantic windsurf holiday.

  1. Day 1Sun 7 Feb

    Monday — Arrival day

Travel to El Médano, settle in and get comfortable before the experience begins. Through the week we keep a flexible schedule so we can chase the best wind conditions and get you optimal time on the water.

  2. Day 2Mon 8 Feb

Tuesday — First meet and greet

After breakfast we gather at the windsurf centre to go over what to expect from the week ahead and dive straight into our first preparation session. Once the wind settles in you get to know the spot and we do the first session.

  3. Day 3Tue 9 Feb

First day of coaching — Getting to know the spot

Theory lessons covering equipment and windsurfing technique. Each morning kicks off with an in-depth session on sails, so you know exactly what to look for when selecting and rigging your gear. As the wind picks up — typically around 11 or 12 — we head out for two water sessions, riding until sunset.

  4. Day 4Wed 10 Feb

Second day of coaching — Get faster and more control

You may know a lot about sails, but handling them is what counts. We start the day with a technique session focused on refining gear control and maximising speed. Once the wind picks up, it is time to put those skills into practice on the water.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered

  • Tenerife South (TFS). El Médano is about ten minutes away — it is the closest windsurf town to any major airport in the Canaries.
  • Intermediate, advanced and semi-pro riders. The minimum requirement is that you are sailing in harness and footstraps.
  • Chop, around 20 °C and 3–7 Beaufort. In winter the trades run 15–20 knots and sometimes more — still very reliable, with wind sessions on most days.
  • We are more than prepared for lighter days: wing foiling, stand-up paddling, bike rides, technique theory and video analysis with Nico. It never gets boring.
  • Four days of coaching, six nights at Playa Surf CBbC Hotel with breakfast, six days of pro windsurf gear rental at the Wind Center Playa Surf, daily lunch on the beach at Flash Point Cafe, and bike rides and more. Exact inclusions depend on the package you choose.
  • No — full gear rental at Wind Center is included for six days in the packages that cover rental. Bring your own harness if you have one; it is the one item worth owning.
  • Around 19–20 °C in the winter months. A 3/2 is enough for most people; bring a 4/3 if you feel the cold or plan long sessions.
