Each bar: how often it blew between 9:00 and 18:00 in that month, counted over about 3.5 years of weather records for Fish Factory. Not a wind meter on the beach: where hills or a gap speed the wind up (Canaries, Tarifa), it often blows more than this shows.

It's the forecast model. In any wind app (Windguru, Windy…) you can pick which one to show. Not sure? GFS is the safe global default; the high-res ones (ICON-D2, AROME…) are sharper at coastal & thermal spots.

Wave spot in the lee of the Hanstholm mole: when west or north-west wind turns Klitmøller onshore and messy, the waves line up here.
Fish Factory is the beach just east of the long mole at the end of Molevej. It is named after the fishmeal factory behind it, which has since closed. In west and north-west wind, when Klitmøller turns onshore and messy, the mole bends the North Sea swell towards the beach. The waves come in organised, with long gaps between the sets. In west-north-west the wind is sideshore from the left. The sandbars keep moving, so the waves break better in some weeks than in others. This is the North Sea, with strong wind and rough, choppy water. On a big day the sets reach 2 to 3 metres. There can be a lot of current in the breaking zone, and it gets stronger the further you move from the mole. In a north-west storm waves have washed over the mole, so you cannot count on its shelter. Close to the beach the high coast makes the wind less steady, and once the wind drops it gets hard to ride the waves. On one 25 to 35 knot day there were only about 15 minutes of solid wind for a 4.2, then it dropped and a 5.0 was needed. You launch from a beach of sharp white limestone. There are large stones in the water that you cannot see at high tide, and mussels too, so wear boots. Keep clear of the small pier downwind. Parking is free at the beach, by the factory or in front of the wind turbines. A sewage outfall sits near the mole, so keep your mouth shut if you fall. The region is a very advanced one and the water does not get that warm. Bring a thick wetsuit, in winter a 6 mm with hood, gloves and boots, and do not go out alone.

Popular wave spot in the dunes east of the Hanstholm treatment plant, best in north-west wind, with a wide surf zone and strong current.
Middles lies a bit further east than Fish Factory, past the treatment plant. It is a popular spot in north-west wind, which blows sideshore to side-onshore here and brings the biggest surf. The waves get very high, and the surf zone is wide and much the same along a long stretch, so riders spread out instead of crowding one peak. Watch the current. It can run strongly to the north-east along the coast, clearly stronger than at Fish Factory. The beach is very stony, with large rocks and mussels in the water, mostly in the shallows. The entry is flat and you feel the tide, so carry your gear a good way out, above all at low tide, and wear boots. Windsurfing and surfing are banned at the treatment plant's outflow. Drive to the end of the asphalt along the shore, then follow the gravel track into the dunes. Park for free on the dune meadow where the track ends. You rig there as well, and there is plenty of space. There are public toilets on the meadow.
