How windy Gran Canaria usually is
Each bar: how often it blew between 9:00 and 18:00 in that month, counted over about 3.5 years of weather records for Pozo Izquierdo. Not a wind meter on the beach: where hills or a gap speed the wind up (Canaries, Tarifa), it often blows more than this shows.

It's the forecast model. In any wind app (Windguru, Windy…) you can pick which one to show. Not sure? GFS is the safe global default; the high-res ones (ICON-D2, AROME…) are sharper at coastal & thermal spots.

Gran Canaria's World Cup spot: strong north-east trade wind, chop and waves, and a rocky shore that makes getting in and out tricky.
Pozo is where the PWA World Tour holds its wave event every year, and the slalom World Cup was raced here in July 2023 and 2024. You launch from the stony shore below the stepped promenade, between the village and the windsurf center at its south end. It works best with a proper north-east trade wind. Without it the wind is gusty and on-off, almost nothing one moment and howling the next. At the July 2024 World Cup there were four days of 30 knots and more with some decent waves, and one race day had 40 knots. Out on the water it is choppy and wavy. Getting in and out over the rocks is tricky, and with a foil it gets harder when the tide is further out. The spot gets busy in summer. For flat water, Arinaga is a short drive up the coast.
