It's the forecast model. In any wind app (Windguru, Windy…) you can pick which one to show. Not sure? GFS is the safe global default; the high-res ones (ICON-D2, AROME…) are sharper at coastal & thermal spots.

Soma Bay is about 50 km south of Hurghada airport and, as Nico puts it, more popular for windsurfing than El Gouna, which is more of a kite spot. You rig on the green rigging area right at the water's edge. The bay in front is flat and shallow, and you can stand almost everywhere. According to the station, there is normally less water, especially in summer. Where you head out from the launch it gets deeper. Further out a sandbank splits the spot, and along it, out at the outer reef, you get full power blasting. It is shallow everywhere out there, so you can only go when you are planing. If you are not planing, your fin gets stuck on the bottom. In Egypt the north wind is channelled down the narrow Red Sea. It is most consistent from March to October, with a peak from June to September. Nico rates this side as probably the best spot in the bay: the other side, with the Robinson and the big hotels, is probably gustier because of the buildings. On his visit the water was very busy after a spell without wind. The sun is very strong, and you do not feel it while it is windy.
